Donating to the Permanent Collection

The Johns Hopkins Archaeological Museum occasionally accepts donations of archaeological objects to its permanent collection. Accepting new acquisitions is a commitment that we take very seriously. Questions we consider during this process include:

  • Does the object fit the museum’s mission?
  • Can the museum provide the care the object needs for best preservation?
  • How did the current owner procure the object?
  • Is this a culturally sensitive object that should be returned to its community of origin?
  • Will it enhance the current collection or duplicate items already in the collection?

For more detailed information about our legal and ethical commitments. please review the Guidelines and Policies developed by the Museum Faculty Advisory Committee. To initiate the donation process, contact the Curator for Collections at [email protected]. Please note, the acquisition process may take over a year to complete.

The museum does not purchase objects for its collection.
