Hidden in the Papyrus Marsh: Symbolism of a Faience Plaque

An Egyptian faience plaque (ECM 1703) dating to the 26th Dynasty from the Eton Collection on loan to Johns Hopkins presents an unusual combination of iconography. The high quality of craftsmanship paired with the depiction of Horus the Child suggests a prestige item that may have been used as an amulet.  The research of this artifact offers an interesting insight into the worship practices surrounding the deity of Horus the Child.
