The Lead Thoth: Plumb-bob or Votive Object?

This brief talk will explore how the dog-faced baboon representation of the Egyptian god Thoth may have been used in antiquity. Was it lovingly carried by a scribe as a symbol of his patron god or used as a tool in order to measure balance? This paper will discuss the reasons this object could fit into either or neither of these categories.
