Visiting the Museum

[The museum is currently closed to the public during renovations.] The museum welcomes all members of the Johns Hopkins community and the general public. Admission is free for everyone and no appointment is needed during the museum’s regular hours (see right) for groups of 5 or less. We do not currently offer tours to the public, but you are welcome to tour the museum on your own. Members of the general public (non-teaching) who would like to bring a group larger than six people need to contact the museum through the General Inquiries form at least one week before the intended visit to be sure the museum is not reserved for a class.

To request a visit as part of a class meeting, see the Faculty & Teachers section of our website for details.

Appointments are necessary for anyone requesting a visit outside the regular hours and can be requested using the General Inquiries form.

HOURS

The museum is closed to the public during renovations. Johns Hopkins class visits are available by appointment.

Location in Gilman Hall

The museum is located in Gilman Hall on the Johns Hopkins Homewood Campus. Gilman Hall is easily recognizable by its tall clock tower and is building #28 on this campus map. The museum is located in Room 150, on the first floor of the building, one floor below the cafe in the Gilman atrium.

Accessibility

The museum is wheelchair accessible, but our historic building is unfortunately rather difficult to navigate. Please call us at 410-516-0383 during open hours if you need assistance getting to us.

Parking for people with disability hang tags is available directly behind Gilman Hall (to the west of the building) next to the Greenhouse (marked as building #29 on this campus map). There is a ramp across the street from the parking lot which takes you to the ground floor entrance to Gilman Hall (look for the door to the left of the winding white marble stairs). One you enter the building, take an immediate left and continue down the long hallway until it ends. Make another left to find an elevator on the left side. Take the elevator to the first floor. Once you exit, make a left until the end of the hall, and then another left. You will then see the front door of the museum on your left.

Parking

The museum does not have a dedicated parking lot. For information on parking for people with disability hang tags, see “accessibility” above. For all other visitors, paid parking is available at numerous parking garages (designed as “P” on this campus map)Parking is also available on neighboring public streets including Wyman Park Drive, Charles Street and University Parkway. There is no bus parking on campus.

Instructions for Visitors Using Drop-Off Services

For those visitors who might choose to use a taxi or other drop-off services to visit us and do not have mobility needs, the simplest way to navigate to our building is to request a drop off at either the East Gate on North Charles Street and walk west towards Gilman Hall, or else at Mason Hall (building #1 on this campus map) and walk north to Gilman Hall. If you have mobility needs, please call us at 410-516-0383 during open hours and we will help you navigate to the closest accessible entrance.
